I got a request for more information about the portion of the briefing in which a senior administration official detailed the administration's actions over the last six months. There wasn't much news. It was mostly a rehash of what the president has done since taking office.
"The week ahead is going to be a great opportunity to highlight and to celebrate American workers and American companies that are responsible for producing the goods marked “Made in America” that are a gold standard throughout the world," the official said.
One other item of interest: Asked about the possibility that the administration could start a trade war by imposing trade restrictions or renegotiating trade deals, the official said: "Obviously, other countries will react as they may. But the president has also demonstrated great facility in his conversations with leaders of other countries with whom the United States has important trade relationships, which may be affected by any trade policy changes. And I expect that will continue.
The official divided White House policymaking into two categories:
-Direct actions, including the president's "Buy American" executive order, the presidential memorandum mandating the use of U.S. steel to build new pipelines and the president's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement.
-Broader economic policies, including tax reform, boosting domestic manufacturing and regulatory reform.
