Subject: Bedminster pool report No. 4 // pool spray highlights.
At 2:25 p.m., President Trump and Vice President Pence appeared outside the Bedminster Golf Club, where he said he’s having meetings on Venezuela, North Korea and other topics. Trump spoke for about seven minutes, and answered several questions.
More to come, but here are top lines. As always, check against tape/transcript:
Trump said some people have criticized his comments on North Korea as too tough. “Maybe it wasn’t tough enough.”
“It’s about time someone stood up for the people of our country,” he said. He said his statements were backed up by the military 100%.
On the possibility of a preemptive strike: “We don’t talk about that. We never do.”
He said the U.S. has been negotiating with North Korea for 25 years. President Clinton, he said, was “weak and ineffective.” And Obama, “He didn’t even want to talk about it.”
On opioids: Trump said he is drafting up paperwork to officially declare the opioid crisis a national emergency.
Trump also talked about his relationship with Mitch McConnell and his frustration over tax reform, health care and infrastructure bills. More to come.
