Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe thanked US President Donald Trump during their bilateral meeting Saturday for a trilateral meeting with the US, Japan and South Korea that Trump had hosted Thursday ahead of the G20 summit, saying he appreciated Trump’s initiative in setting up those talks. He expressed “great pleasure” at holding a bilateral meeting with Trump.
Abe addressed the need to stand together on North Korea. “As I look at the current situation, particularly the security environment in the Asia Pacific region, including North Korea, we believe that it has become increasingly severe and against such backdrop together with you Donald we would like to demonstrate the robust partnership as well as the bond between Japan and the United States on this occasion,” Abe said in brief remarks through a translator.
