VPOTUS traveled to the South Side of Youngstown after leaving the Canfield Fair.
At his first stop, he talked with a couple of homeowners on Glenaven Avenue, a neighborhood that has a mix of improved and rundown houses. He was there for 10 minutes speaking to homeowners
He then spent about 35 minutes touring Lanterman Avenue between Rogers Road and Billingsgate Avenue. The street had nine vacant properties a few years ago, but is being revitalized by the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp, and is largely occupied in a community known as the Idora Neighborhood as it's near where the former Idora Park, a local amusement park, was located until the late 1980s.
Escorting him was ex-Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams, now the head of the U.S. Economic Development Agency, and Ian Beniston, YNDC's executive director. Williams drove with VPOTUS from the Canfield Fair to the two stops in his hometown.
VPOTUS took his time greeting and talking to residents on the street. He took so long that the visit was cut short after he spoke to residents at four houses and with YNDC's Americorps members who are fixing up other houses nearby.
VPOTUS's motorcade then traveled to the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna, Trumbull County. The motorcade arrived about 4:55 p.m. He spoke with firefighters from the attached Youngstown Air Reserve Station. (Yes, a lot of places not in Youngstown are named Youngstown.) He boarded Air Force 2 at 5:04 p.m. The plane left the airport at 5:15 p.m.
Thus concludes my pool report.
