Dr. Biden Pool Report #1
Dr. Jill Biden arrived at the Osan Air Force Base on a military aircraft at around 1:00 p.m. local time as the first leg of her four-country Asia tour. She was accompanied by Catherine Russell, U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues, Scot Marciel, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs; and Christie Vilsack, Senior Advisor for International Education, USAID.
They were greeted by U.S. Ambassador to Korea Mark Lippert, USAF General Terrence O'Shaughnessy, ROK Air Force General Kim Jeong Sig and Mrs. Park Mi Young, and USAF Colonel Brian Carr after they stepped out of the military aircraft. Pool reporters were too far away to hear the conversation. Dr. Biden went on to greet a group of 40 military families gathered at the airfield. She first spoke to a group of young girls and mothers, shaking their hands. The VPOUS staff handed the group White House M&M’s in small white boxes.
Dr. Biden was wearing a cherry pink cardigan, a white dress with cherry pink and green flowers and canary yellow wedge sandals. This is the first visit of a U.S. Second Lady to the ROK, and also Dr. Biden’s first visit.
