Some hightlights from the early arrivals --
The first guest of the evening was U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, accompanied by her father Dr. James Chao.
When asks what she was wearing she said "it's something very inexpensive."
She was followed by Samantha Power, rep to the United Nations, and Cass Sunstein.
Power said of China, "It's a really important relationship - complex, multifaceted."
Madeleine Albright came through and said she had attended "many and they're always fantastic."
Fashion designer Phillip Lim came through and discussed the ensemble that he designed for FLOTUS that she wore this morning. He said it was a custom piece from his spring collection that was just shown in New York. "She wore it perfectly," he said.
Film producer Jeffrey Katzenberg said tonight was about "fun" not business.
Mark Zuckerberg and his wife arrived, strolled quickly by your pooler, but she looked ravishing in a red lace dress with a low back.
On the politics side of things, DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz arrived and said "not tonight" when a reporter asked about today's big news -- Speaker Boehner stepping down.
Also from the political world Sens. Corker, Cantwell and Stabenow have arrived.
There seems to be a velvet pantsuit trend here at the White House tonight with Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Justice Sonia Sotomayor both rocking them.
