Subject: Foreign Pool Report #2: the Expanded Bilateral Meeting between President Xi and President Obama
The pool spray for the expanded bilateral meeting was later than originally scheduled for 25 minutes.
Your foreign pooler was brought into the Cabinet Room at 11:30 AM ET sharp, and the only words that your pooler heard from President Obama was: "Alright, everybody get some pictures. Thank you, guys. I will see you in the press conference."
That's it, your foreign pooler ushered out in less than a minute.
It was a full house. Your pooler first saw President Obama with Vice President Biden at his right hand side and Secretary Kerry at left hand side along with other six U.S. officials.
In front of President Obama were President Xi and eight Chinese officials. Among them, Wang Huning was at Preisdent Xi's right hand side and Li Zhanshu at his left hand side. They both are his top policy advisers. Wang Huning's is a current member of the Communist Party's Politburo, and Li Zhanshu is the current Director of the General Office of the Communist Party.
Actually, during the Welcome Ceremony in this morning, Mr. Wang and Mr. Li stood next to U.S. National Security Advisor Susan Rice along with China's State Councilor Yang Jiechi and the Chief Executive of Hong Kong Leung Chun-ying. It's the same row where both First Ladies stood.
