Subject: Foreign Pool Report - Bilateral Meeting between President Obama and Prime Minister Lee
President Obama and Prime Minister Lee walked through the colonndade and chatted, the President let the Prime Minister go in the Oval Office first, and he closed the door by himself.
Your pooler was ushered in the Oval Office in 9:50 AM and ushered out in 9:51 AM. Other than the two leaders, no other official from both sides was spotted in the Oval Office. They had a small talk and both laughed when your pooler was there, yet can barely be heard by your pooler.
Among their bilat, it is expected that they will talk about security cooperation, TPP, and South China Sea, because the President talked about the issue during his interview with the Straits Times, a Singapore news outlet. And the Prime Minister's official visit is right after the international arbitration ruling on the South China Sea.
It's a coincidence, according to the White House NSC official, Myles B. Caggins. He told your pooler that the White House announced the visit on June 1st, and the planning for this event began several months ago. "This was several weeks prior to the Arbitration Ruling. It was also several weeks before the timing of the ruling was announced."
The joint press conference by the two leaders is about to begin, 20 minutes earlier than the daily guidance, stay tuned.
