Subject: Foreign pool report of meeting between POTUS and Prime Minister Kenny of Ireland
Pool was escorted to the Oval Office at 11.15 am aprox.
No news from POTUS and Prime Minister Kenny.
Kenny said that he spoke with POTUS about the referendum in UK in June about remaining or not in the European Union, but no confirmation about whether POTUS is going to visit London in late April, as The Independent reported last week.
In his brief remarks, POTUS highlighted "the incredible friendship" between US and Ireland. He noted too the "significant progress" in the rebound of Irish economy, and the "strong recovery" in US.
But there is "more work to do" and it's necessary to continue working on trade and investment "to boost jobs", he said.
POTUS praised Ireland for doing "historically" a good job in humanitarian assistance to migrants and peace keeping activities around the world.
He also appealed to "solidify peace" in Northern Ireland and explained that talked to Kenny about immigration too.
US should continue to be a nation that welcomes immigrants, POTUS said.
With regard to the Irish Prime Minister, he praised the "connection" between US and Ireland and said that he spoke with POTUS about referendum in UK and how the European Union is dealing with migrants and refugees.
Vicepresident Biden and Secretary Kerry were present in the Oval too.
