Subject: Foreign Pool Report -- Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
The pool entered the Oval office at about 11.19. Both the leaders were seen smiling and talking to each other.
POTUS and PM Sharif gave brief remarks, lasted for about a few minutes. Pls check their remarks against official transcripts.
Welcoming PM Sharif and his delegation to the Oval Office, POTUS said US and Pakistan have a long standing relationship.
POTUS said the two nations have been cooperating “on a whole host of issues, not just on security matters, but also on economic, scientific and educational affairs”.
POTUS said: “We are looking forward to using this opportunity to deepen this relationship between the United States and Pakistan.”
He also praised the extraordinary Pakistani American community
In his brief remarks PM Sharif thanked POTUS for inviting him to Washington once again. He thanked POTUS for his generous hospitality extended to his and members of his delegation.
Sharif said it is his endeavor further strengthen and solidify US-Pak relationship.
Sharif said he looks forward to a very constructive engagement with POTUS "to add greater substance and depth" to this relationship.
Part of the visiting delegations seen inside the Oval Office were its Finance Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar; Interior Minister Chaudhry Nissar, Defense Minister Khwaja Asif and the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz.
This is the POTUS-Sharif meeting in the Oval Office. The last one being two years ago.
