Subject: Foreign pool report POTUS with UN Sec Gen-designate Antonio Guterres

Pool entered oval at 11:12 am.

A quick short statements from both sides with no major news to report . It's more of an orientation meeting of general themes about the UN role in the world and US cooperation .

POTUS talked in general about the importance of the UN as a critical partner of United States , he expressed confidence in the the new Secretary General , " he has an extraordinary reputation ", and praised his work with UNHCR  and refuges. He talked about the challenges ahead and world conflict , he said that Mr Guterres assumes an office that has an enormous influence around the world .

The Secretary General-designate whom I believe speaks six languages said in fluent English that the visit intended to express ways of cooperation with this and next administration in an increasingly "dangerous world " that witnesses the multiplications of conflicts , " the international community lost much of its capacity to end conflicts .He also talked about the globalization as a good things but it also left poor people behind .  He talked about human rights and the importance of preserving them.

Both talked about the necessity of the UN being both effective and efficient.

Reporters shouted questions but POTUS declined to answer any .

Spotted in the room was Ambassador Samantha Power and NCA Suzan Rice.

Full transcript to follow soon.
