Pool was escorted into a conference room in the EEOB, where the president and vice president were meeting with about 15 members of the Democratic Governors Association. Pool is endeavoring to get a list of attendees, which included Gov. Malloy of Connecticut, Gov. Hickenlooper of Colorado, Gov. Nixon of Missouri, Gov. Raimondo of Rhode Island, and Gov. Ige of Hawaii.

The president spoke for about 4 minutes, praising the governors for their efforts at raising minimum wages and expanding early childhood education, and enacting measures such as paid sick leave in Vermont. He said the success of the Affordable Care Act is "thanks to the efforts of all of you."

"There's one thing in particular I'm going to make a focus this year, and that's protecting everybody's right to vote. The job of our democracy is to make it easier, not harder, for our citizens to vote."

Praised efforts in California and Oregon to adopt automatic voter registration.

"It's about making democracy as good as it can be."

The president praised Gov. Hickenlooper of Colorado for having "a very good year."
"First he gets married, then the Broncos win the Super Bowl," he said.

Mr. Obama was flanked by Mr. Biden and Valerie Jarrett. Also at the table were Cecilia Munoz, David Simas and Labor Secretary Tom Perez.
