Subject: in-town pool report #1 - arrival/overnight lid

Greetings, night owls, from an empty White House basement. At 1:12 a.m., Marine One came into view near the Washington Monument. Four minutes later, the presidential helicopter touched down on the South Lawn. At 1:17 a.m., President Obama -- wearing tan khakis, a blue blazer, and an olive or brown button-down shirt -- exited with a salute to the Marine awaiting outside. He then strolled casually toward the residence, and entered the White House at 1:18 a.m. President Obama did not acknowledge the small media pool, but did wave at staffers and and Secret Service agents outside the residence. The pool was escorted out of the Rose Garden, past a dark Oval Office, shortly after.

White House aides who exited Marine One after the president were Press Secretary Josh Earnest, Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes, personal aide Joe Paulsen, and Deputy Chief of Staff Anita Breckenridge. All were carrying luggage of varying shapes and sizes.

And with that, at 1:26 a.m., we have a lid until 11:30 a.m. Happy Friday, everybody.
