Pool was escorted into the Roosevelt Room at 4:18 p.m.
As Josh Earnest announced at the briefing, the president was scheduled to meet with national security leaders to discuss the strategic importance of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
Participants included former Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright, James Baker, Colin Powell and Henry Kissinger. Also Mike Mullen, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and former National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft.
The meeting was scheduled to begin at 3:10 p.m.
Obama was seated at the center of the table with Kissinger to one side and Baker to the other.
"The key now is to get this thing done," he said.
The president spoke for about 5 minutes and concluded at 4:25 p.m. As pool was escorted out the president thanked the participants and started shaking hands.
