Subject: In-town Pool Report 3: Return and Lid
Not even President Obama can get down Connecticut Avenue fast on a Friday. The pool returned to the White House after a 35 minute drive from Chevy Chase that included the motorcade hitting heavy traffic in Woodley Park and stops at red lights.
Most of the pedestrians and motorists we passed were unaware of or indifferent to the President's passage, though some tourists waved by the zoo and as the motorcade entered the White House grounds at 4:53pm.
Earlier, we held for about 4.5 hours at the hospitable Columbia Country Club, which fed poolers, agents and White House staff buffet style. Deviled eggs highlighted the spread.
From the clubhouse, we saw a group of golfers on the 15th green, among whom the press pool could not identify POTUS, though the group was too distant for us to be sure he was not there.
A crowd of golfers watching the course from by the clubhouse was wanded by security.
There were no sightings by pooler of POTUS entering or exciting the motorcade.
