National Governors Association dinner. Two lighthearted toasts, with plenty of jokes about post-presidency.
Extremely elegant dinner setting in the State Dining Room, with large floral arrangements.
Pool gathered about 7:10 p.m.
Obama was scheduled to give the first toast, followed by Gov. Gary Herbert (R), chairman of the NGA.
While holding outside the dinner, pool spotted a very elegant Dr. Jill Biden with her hair up wearing a long sparkly gown, followed by her husband, a tuxedoed Vice President Joe Biden.
At 7:17 p.m., the president and FLOTUS were announced. Michelle appeared to be wearing a sleeveless gold gown with beadwork throughout, and large jeweled earrings.
Obama welcomed the group and among other comments, pointed out it was Interior Secretary Sally Jewell's birthday.
"So, this is my final governors dinner, at least my final one as president," Obama said to great laughter.
Then he said he was joking, just to see how Michelle would react.
Pool observed that the First Lady was not laughing.
Spotted in the back of the room was David Simas, political director, and Michael Froman, U.S. trade representative.
The first toast was made at 7:24 p.m.
Herbert then thanked the president for his hospitality and also heaped praise on Biden during his remarks.
Second toast was delivered by self-described "teetotaler, Mormon from Utah" at 7:29 p.m.
The lights were then dimmed and pool was ushered out.
A travel/photo lid was called at 7:34 p.m. Good night!
