POTUS entered a packed East Room at 2:09 pm to sustained applause. The
crowd interrupted him to applaud several times more times.
POTUS said he is starting the week off with something they should have
more often: "a truly bipartisan bill signing."
The crowd laughed when POTUS said getting these bills through Congress
had not been easy.
POTUS said he was joined in the room by those representing small
businesses, environmental and global development groups as well as
lawmakers. Though they were not present, he thanked House Speaker John
Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as well as others.
Remarks ended at 2:17 pm. He began signing the bills at 2:18 pm after
saying "this may take awhile." He finished two minutes later.
He signed H.R. 2146 Defending Public Safety Employees’ Retirement Act
and H.R. 1295 Trade Preferences Extension Act of 2015.
