Subject: Pool report #1 -- Obama remarks at In Performance event

POTUS and FLOTUS walked into the East Room at about 7:45 for tonight's "In Performance at the White House" event. Standing ovation.

POTUS spoke for about 5-10 mins. White House will release full transcript of his remarks later.

The event marks the 50th anniversary of the Natl Endowment for the Humanities. POTUS listed off the people performing: Smokey Robinson, Buddy Guy, Queen Latifah, Usher, Keb Mo.

"This is an eclectic bunch," he said to chuckles.

POTUS said people ask him all the time about the perks of being president. First is the plane, he said. The second thing is that "Buddy Guy comes here all the time, to my house, with his geetar."

He spoke briefly about the need to support artists and then moved aside to let the show begin.

Keb Mo was up first. He played "America the Beautiful" with a bluesy flair.

Pool was ushered out as Carol Burnett (!) took the stage. She was telling a story about "my good friend Julie Andrews" as pool was led out.

Spotted in the crowd: actor Michael B. Jordan and former Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas). Lynda and Luci Johnson, daughters of Lyndon Johnson, are also here.

We have a lid.

Pretty sure I can hear Queen Latifah raising the roof right now.
