Subject: Pool Report #1b: Ashford gaggle
Rep. Brad Ashford came back to chat with reporters, mostly Joe Morton of the Omaha World Herald, but talked to the full pool. Some quick quotes, will revise and extend if neede:
He talked about his excitement to accompany the president to Omaha, and the cities excitement to welcome him.
"The idea of being able to accompany him – it doesn’t get any better than that because we’re all so proud of what we’ve done in Nebraska. Even though we only won 6 games," he joked.
"This puts a spotlight on [us], just like the Buffett annual meeting or the College World Series. Now we get the President of the United States."
He said that people "miscast" Nebraska, saying it's a "very balanced state" more like Iowa or Minnesota than states to the south. And he said there is much for the president to tout there - particularly early childhood education -- Nebraska is a "very strong public education state" -- as well as agriculture.
"Nebraska’s obviously one of the most prolific ag export states. … We are an export state and our production is second to none. And the president has been fighting to expand our reach into Asia. … He has a great story to tell."
