Subject: POOL Report #4 -- Arrival of PM Lee and Mrs. Lee and Official Photos
PM Lee Hsien Loong and Mrs. Lee arrived at the North Portico sharply at 7 PM as the sun was slanting into evening.
As reported by Booksellers POOL, the First Lady is wearing an ivory-colored dress designed by Brandon Maxwell, according to the WH. It is strapless, with a belted back at the waist, a flowing, almost A-line skirt -- one solid color -- with a curved, fold-over bodice. Mrs. Obama is wearing her hair smoothed back and tucked under at the nape of her neck. Looped, sparkly earrings. Simple and very very elegant.
Mrs. Lee is wearing a long, deep red chiffon dress with a gold-sparkly lace overlay.
The President and PM are in traditional black tie.
"Good evening! Hi" said the PM upon arrival.
"Good to see you," Obama said to Mrs. Lee.
Then the red carpet was rolled up, and POOL escorted into the WH. The two couples descended the Grand Staircase for the official photos at 7:30 PM and after a brief pause (Obama smiling and the PM looking very serious) they all entered the Blue Room together.
The State Floor is decorated with gold lanterns with candles inside on the floor, sparkling chandeliers above, and theatrical "up" lighting to set the mood. The floral displays are yellow roses and yellow sprays of orchids, among other yellow floral decorations (yellow symbolizing friendship). There are two large black-and-glass cabinets added to the State Floor filled with flickering candles, adding intimacy to the open space.
Next up: Toasts.
