At 14:15 the motorcade rolled from Treme. The urban part of the route saw pockets of people snapping pics on their cell phones and cameras and one notable group of uniformed school kids from St. Peter Claver who held banners welcoming POTUS.
At 14:28 the motorcade arrived to the freshly built Andrew P. Sanchez Community Center, where the President is due to give a speech shortly. The center is in the Lower Ninth Ward, which was hard hit by Katrina.
The floor of the hall is the size of two basketball courts, with a raised stage. There is a mural on the wall of a Mississippi steam boat going under the Greater New Orleans Bridge (Crescent City Connection) at sunset. The mural features old and new style homes on each bank, with a crescent moon above, a reference to the city's nickname.
Beside that is a large blue banner, emblazoned with "Katrina 10" and "Resilient New Orleans" bookended by two white fleurs-de-lis.
We are now awaiting the president's remarks, listening to a brass band playing Pharrell Williams and other tunes.
