Subject: Pool report #5 -- Color from swearing-in, retirement ceremony
POTUS was introduced on stage shortly before 2:30 pm.
Units from the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard all participated in the event. The ceremony also featured a fife and drum corps, a military band, 56 state and territorial flags of the United States and an armed forces color guard. There was a gun salute, a presentation of colors and a singing of the national anthem.
Ge. Joseph Dunford was sworn in as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs at 2:48 pm. He short hands with President Obama and Defense Secretary Ash Carter after the oath.
Secretary Carter then presented General Dempsey with the Distinguished Service Medals of the branches of the armed forces as well as a United States flag that was flown over both the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery. General Dempsey's son read his retirement orders.
