Subject: Pool Report #5 -- Introduction of the president and first lady

President Obama arrived at the Kennedy Center Honors during an intermission. At 9 p.m., the pool was led into the theater to witness the introduction of the president and First Lady Michelle Obama.

The audience stood and applauded as the president and first lady were announced. They walked to their box and stood for a few moments, clapping for the honorees and offering a few waves to the guests below.

The presidential seal was affixed to the front of their box. Valerie Jarrett and George Lucas were seated near the first couple.

The president, who pulled off a quick wardrobe change before departing the White House, is now donning a tuxedo. Michelle Obama is wearing a strapless royal blue and black gown.

The Obamas soon took their seats, and the show resumed. The pool is holding in a meeting room, watching the production on a closed-circuit broadcast.
