Subject: Pool Report #5 -- Meeting with bipartisan MOC on criminal justice reform

Sorry to bother you guys so late (and to shake it up as a Yahoo pinch hitter), but a quick note from the White House:

Background from the White House:

Today, following up on his State of the Union address, President Obama sat down with a bipartisan group of 16 Senators and Representatives who have shown leadership on juvenile and criminal justice reform. They discussed ways in which his Administration and the Members could work together to pass meaningful criminal justice reform legislation this Congress.

The President thanked them for their bipartisan work on criminal justice reform. He noted how during his Administration, for the first time in 40 years, both the crime rate and the incarceration rate have fallen, and he stressed the need to build on these numbers. The President consulted with the Members on ways to build public support for a comprehensive, smart reform package based on many of the ideas they are now championing in legislation.
