Subject: pool report #7
President Obama descended the steep House stairs at 1:42 p.m., flanked by Speaker Ryan, Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., and Prime Minister Kenny. Vice President Biden followed several steps behind. For most of the walk down, Obama and King engaged in a discussion. At one point, the president laughed. At the bottom of the massive staircase, there were handshakes all around and Obama and Biden again boarded the same car. Your pooler could not make out what was being said.
The motorcade rolled off the Capitol campus at 1:43 p.m.
A small crowd lined both sides of Independence Ave. NW, one group wearing green shirts and another wearing yellow. The motorcade had an uneventful trip down 3rd St. NW, where small groups of on-lookers took in the sight. Pockets of on-lookers watched the motorcade roll down Pennsylvania Ave. NW, and some even waved in the direction of the press vans.
The presidential limousine pulled onto the White House grounds at 1:49 p.m. Two minutes later, Biden and Obama exited their car and slowly walked up the sidewalk while chatting. They entered the Oval Office.
And, with that, we have a lid until 3 p.m., for pre-set before the St. Patrick's Day reception in the East Room.
An update on the arrival outside the House chamber. The White House passes on the names of the greeters: House Sergeant of Arms Paul Irving and Senate Deputy Sergeant of Arms Jim Morhard.
