Subject: Travel pool 1/EAS Summit

Happy Sunday morning from Kuala Lumpur, on Potus's final day of a 9-day trip. Motorcade was on the move at 10:32 a.m. Arrived at convention center after uneventful 10 minute drive for Obama to attend the East Asia Summit. Pool entered conference room at 11:28. The centerpiece of the room was a large round table with a donut hole and concentric rows of chairs behind it for staff. There were three Jumbotron-style screens on the walls and TV screens on the floor in front of each leader. Obama was positioned with Medvedev on the right and Aquino to the left. Potus entered at 11:40 after most of the other leaders and shook hands with those near his seat, including Medvedev. Then the leaders got up and moved to a platform for the EAS family photo. Obama was between Malaysia PM Najib and the leader of Brunei. After 30 seconds of posing, Potus stepped off the platform first and returned to his seat. Susan Rice, Danny Russel and Dan Kritenbrink were among the aides seated behind Potus. Najib opened the summit at 11:43 with remarks and said inclusion of U.S. and Russia in 2011 to EAS "significantly changed the landscape" and made the EAS a leading organization to promote a "rules-based order" in the region. EAS will promote deeper dialogue on political and strategic issues to promote trust. "This could not come at a more critical time," Najib said. He then asked the press to leave at 11:47. Pool holding.
