The motorcade stopped at 12:25 PM at the Brookland Baptist Church and community resource center, one of the largest African-American churches in the state. Obama arrived with Rep. Clyburn and Holder to cheers from about 100 people in a large dining room with a buffet table where they hold regular fundraiser lunches for the church.
The president shook hands and posed for photos, including with a woman in a bright red dress who hugged him very tightly.
"She's hanging on, won't let go!" the president said.
He posed for a photo with USAF Capt. Oneeka Rivers and told her, "thank you for your service." Also at the table was Jerrie'Me Wright, 28, whom Obama called a "handsome young man."
Motorcade rolling again at 12:46 pm.
