Subject: Travel pool report #12
The group of seven world leaders and two European officials sat clustered around a simple and surprisingly intimate circular wooden table without table cloth. They were all laughing and talking loudly when the pool walked in. Only French President Francois Hollande was wearing a suit jacket. President Obama was sitting next to Chancellor Merkel and the Canadian Prime Minister.
A few seconds after the pool was escorted into the room, the laughter, talking and joking stopped and everyone leaned forward as if studying their menus. Obama reclined back in his chair. Everyone, especially the president, seemed to be relaxed and having fun. Maybe it says something about the loneliness of command or being a head of state, but the leaders of the G7 countries seemed genuinely to enjoy being around their peers.
