At 4:55 pm, the president participated in an event called "Mission innovation", together with PM Modi of India, French president Hollande and Bill Gates.
The initiative will see 20 countries committing to double their investments in clean energy research and development over the next 5 years.
In brief remarks, president Obama emphasized the need to help developing nations to skip "the dirty phase of development".
"The leap forward is going to take private sector efforts", he added, praising the Mission Innovation initiative.
"We know that if we put our best minds behind it and we have the dollars behind it, we will discover what works", he concluded.
