Subject: Travel print pool report 17: OTR stop in Gilbert
At 2.28 PM motorcade stopped in a residential neighborhood in Gilbert, AZ. It's the home of Cory Remsburg. House is bedecked with banners highlighting groups that helped build the house. A small gathering of friends and volunteers is gathered by the backyard pool (which has a kickass grill and bar setup) to greet POTUS.
Background From the White House:
The President is visiting Sergeant First Class Cory Remsburg, the veteran of Afghanistan and wounded warrior who the President highlighted in his 2014 State of the Union Address. At a ceremony earlier in the day, Cory received the keys to his new home, which was purchased by the Army Ranger Lead the Way Fund and renovated with the help of Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors. The President brought Cory several housewarming gifts, including White House beer.
The President first met Cory on Omaha Beach at the 65th anniversary ceremonies of D-Day in 2009 and has since met with Cory several times during his recovery from his wounds, including traumatic brain injury. This is their fifth meeting.
