Vice President Joe Biden's plane landed at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (near the Wilson Air Center) at 10:20 a.m. Monday.
A motorcade was waiting. The Vice President descended the stairs, saluted an officer, waved to the pool press and got into a limousine.
At about 10:50 a.m., the motorcade stopped at a new Clinton/Kaine campaign headquarters in west Charlotte. It's the fourth Clinton/Kaine field office to open in the city. Address: 1520 West Boulevard, Suite D.
Biden emerged from the limo and entered the field office "bearing gifts," as he put it. He carried a large box of donuts.
The field workers crowded into the office cheered and applauded Biden.
The Vice President spoke for 20 minutes. He said the key to the election will be getting the vote out. "It's going to get down to a single thing -- it's about getting out the vote."
He said Clinton/Kaine can win North Carolina this year. "We can win Carolina."
Biden also brought up the subject of Clinton's health.
"Hillary's health is good. I've had pneumonia. I don't know about any of you. I've had walking pneumonia. What you do, you take antibiotics and you rest a little bit. And she's been transparent about her health. ... So we're in good shape. And I'm encouraging her -- if the doctor says take 3 days off, take 6 days off. Take the time."
Biden said that world leaders he meets around the world all ask him about Trump. "It's almost like: 'Please God, tell me abut Trump.'" Biden added he was "joking a bit."
Biden also alluded to the recent controversy involving Clinton's comments about "half" of Trump's supporters being in a "basket of deplorables." She later walked back the "half" part.
"I've know Hillary a long, long, long time. She gets a bum rap. For every time she will say something where she says, 'Well, maybe I should have said something different,' think if they held Trump to that standard. He'd be in trouble. He is in trouble."
Biden added later to the campaign workers:
"One of the things that the Republicans have done very successfully so far is raise doubt about our candidate. There's overwhelming doubt (about Trump). I want people to understand the Hillary I know. I want them to know the woman I have known for over 35 years. I want them to understand the woman who understands it's more than economics. It's about peoples' lives."
