Roundtable discussion at Duke also focused on issues of health disparities and the role of nurses in cancer care. VPOTUS had great praise for nurses.
VPOTUS learned about a cancer surveillance system at UNC that married data systems from a statewide cancer registry, Medicare, Medicaid, insurance claims and geospatial data that help map hotspots.
He said he wanted to follow up on this with Stephanie Wheeler, professor of the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Then he joked, "I deserve a Nobel Prize for bringing Duke and North Carolina together."
