18 January 2017 -- Joint Base Andrews

Your pool knows well enough that what happens on Air Force Two stays on Air Force Two.

But suffice it to say the mood on the plane carrying Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. back to Washington, DC on the Vice President's final official trip was something along the lines of "sober joy."  I can report that the Vice President was full of energy and looked very happy, from a distance (as your pool is in the back of the plane).

Air Force Two touched down at Joint Base Andrews at exactly 4:00pmET.

As we landed, a tribute from the Air Force staff was made to Vice President Biden.  The person said that the tradition in the USAF is that when someone leaves the service, he or she is "hosed down."  Since they didn't want to give the Vice President pneumonia, they hosed down the entire plane with big fire truck hoses.  Much applause.

So this is it for the several days of Vice President's journey to Switzerland and Ukraine.  It was a true pleasure for your pool to serve you in this capacity.  Thanks for your patience with any lapses and the support from the many who emailed your pool.

And a special shout out to Carol Lee who taught your pool all he knows of this avocation by watching her extraordinary performance under pressure on past trips.

That's a lid.  Thanks again.
