Memorial to the Heavenly Hundred
At the top of the Avenue of the Heavenly Hundred (formerly Institutska Street, still the common name) stands an unofficial memorial to those killed during the Maidan protests in February 2014. Called the Heavenly Hundred (the "Hundred" is a Cossack military unit), most of the roughly 100 victims were killed by sniper fire from surrounding buildings. The memorial incorporates photos of the protestors who were killed and a traditional wooden cross.
