Subject: VPOTUS travel pool report #2 -- arrival at fire house.
On this partly sunny 9/11 day in NYC, VPOTUS has arrived at Rescue Company 1 in Manhattan to visit with first responders.
Background from WH:
In advance of visiting the 9/11 Memorial Motorcycle Ride Kickoff event, the Vice President is dropping by Rescue Company 1 in Manhattan. Rescue Company 1 is a unit of the New York Fire Department that responds to fire situations which require specialized equipment and training, and it is responsible for rescuing firefighters who are trapped in grave situations.
The company was severely decimated during the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, losing nearly half of its company. Rescue 1 responded to the North Tower, and was one of the first units seen entering the stairwell in Jules and Gedeon Naudet’s documentary “9/11.”
Rescue 1 is staffed with one captain, three lieutenants, and typically 25 to 30 firefighters that are split into shifts.
