Background from the White House:

This afternoon Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Senior Advisor to the President Valerie Jarrett hosted American business leaders who are standing with the Obama Administration as founding pledge takers to launch the Fair Chance Business Pledge.  The Administration officials thanked the group for their leadership and the representatives outlined the steps their companies are taking to eliminate barriers for those with a criminal record and create pathways for second chances. They also discussed their efforts to invest in programs that prevent individuals from interacting with the justice system such as summer opportunities, mentorship programs, and workforce and educational development programs, and they shared insights on their fair chance hiring practices, using data to track progress, efforts to change the culture and stigma around formerly incarcerated individuals, and partnership efforts with local communities across the country to provide a second chance. Additionally, the participants pledged to work together help to grow this initiative across industries and supply chains.

Companies signing the pledge today include: American Airlines, Busboys and Poets, The Coca-Cola Company, Facebook, Georgia Pacific, Google, Greyston Bakery, The Hershey Company, The John Hopkins Hospital and Health System, Koch Industries, Libra Group, PepsiCo, Prudential, Starbucks, Uber, Under Amour/Plank Industries, Unilever and Xerox.
