Obama signs wilderness site bill, makes no news

No mention of Iran deal or Schumer's opposition

In the Oval Office Sitting at his desk with Rep. Mike Simpson and seven other people behind him, Obama started out by hailing today's jobs report.

Check quotes against transcript.

"We got a jobs numbers today showing that America created another 210,000 new jobs. That makes 65 consecutive months of private sector job growth. This is the strongest two-year run of private sector job growth we've seen in the last 15 years and it is a testament I think to the incredible ingenuity and resilience of the American people," Obama said.

He then addressed the bill he was about to sign, H.R. 1138 Sawtooth National Recreation Area and Jerry Peak Wilderness Additions Act.

Obama noted that Rep. Simpson "was able to receive not a single no vote, which does not happen that often."

Then he thanked firefighters taking on fires all across Western states. "As I've noted before, we've seen a consistent escalation of the severity and length of wildfire season, and a lot of that is attributable to the the fact that climate change" creating loss of water and more vulnerability to fires.

He said his administration is working to properly fund firefighting efforts but also to engage in conservation plan to prevent fires in the first place.

From White House press, a list of those in room for bill signing:
