Subject: WH Travel Pool 4/10 #8: Copa/Boeing Signing Ceremony
At 11:42 am POTUS and President Varela entered another conference room at the RIU Hotel on the same floor as the spray to witness the signing of a new agreement between Copa Airlines and Boeing.
The two leaders stood behind seated participants as follows:
Copa Chairman Stanley Motta, Copa CEO Pedro Heilbron, Boeing Chairman and CEO Jim McNerney, and GE Aviation President and CEO David Joyce.
Details from press release: Copa orders 61 737 VMAC 8 and MAX 9 airplanes, for a $6.6 billion deal that is “the largest commercial transaction between an Panamanian and a US-based company ever.”
The signing itself was very quick. “That’s it!” POTUS said, seeming both a statement of fact and a surprised question. The group then engaged in some hushed small talk, though POTUS at one point announced proudly to the assembled press in the back of the room that the deal means 12,000 jobs to the United States.
Pool now holding awaiting next movement.
