We were wheels down in Birmingham at 1:47 PM local time
POTUS disembarked at 1:58, followed by Rep. Sewell
He chatted briefly and shook hands w greeters at the bottom of the steps
Greeters were: Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama
William Bell, Mayor of Birmingham
Col Robert Grant, Vice Commander of the 117th Air Refueling Wing,
Alabama Air National Guard

Principal Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz gaggled on board - no news
Topics included Obama's speech today, w a jab at the House Republican
budget that would end automatic funding to the CFPB and, he said,
would risk a return to "too big to fail."
On Bergdahl, he said U.S. policy is not to leave any soldier behind
and that it was an ongoing military justice issue, so he could not
comment further. Said the U.S. has confidence it will be able to
mitigate risk of released detainees.
On the downed plane, he repeated Obama's remarks about prayers +
condolences to those affected + their loved ones and said the U.S. has
been in touch w French authorities + has offered assistance.
Asked if the incident would prompt any review of airline cockpit
procedures, he first referred reporters to the French govt, then to
the FAA.
On Yemen, he noted that the Saudis are taking military action + the
U.S. is offering logistical + intell support.
"We are fully aware + supportive of the GCC decision to take action," he said.
Wouldn't rule in or rule out further action or say when Obama learned
about the Saudi operation.

Motorcade departs shortly for Lawson State Community College where
Obama will hold his event
