Subject: white House pool report # 2
Here are some more (and more accurate) POTUS remarks from the top of the meeting with the 3 West African Leaders:
POTUS spoke for about 3 minutes once pool was conveyed into the Cabinet Room at 10:45 a.m.
"The United States has had a long partnership with Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, and that partnership has proven to be critical."
"We're here to assess progress and look ahead."
"We begin by noting the incredible losses that took place in all three countries." (He cited 10k)
"Under extraordinary circumstances the people of these three countries have shown courage and resolve in treating and taking care of each other, especially children."
He said less than 40 new cases were reported last week (zero in Liberia), the lowest in a year.
"So we've seen major progress."
"We're now focused on a shared goal of getting to zero."
With the help of the IMF and World Bank, he talked of rebuilding the three countries' health systems: "The Ebola epidemic also has been an economic crisis."
That pretty much covers the substance of the president's remarks. The other three presidents did not make statements.
