Subject: White House print pool report # 1
Pool was conveyed to the Cabinet Room where POTUS was set to meet with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Guinean President Alpha Condé, and Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma.
Johnson Sirleaf sat to president's right, with Bai Koroma to far right. Conde was to president's left, with VP Joe Biden standing off to the left behind them.
Flags from all four countries were set behind them. The long oval table was set with tea/coffee cups and water.
Per White House, POTUS is set to discuss progress made in the international response to Ebola, the U.S. partnership, long-term economic recovery, and prevention of future outbreaks.
Some initial POTUS remarks (please check against coming WH transcript):
President called the partnership with the West African nations "critical."
"We begin by noting the incredible losses in all three countries." He praised their "courage" and "resolve."
He noted that new cases were down to 40 last week. "We're not working on a shared goal of zero."
He said the countries' health systems also need to be rebuilt. "The fight against Ebola also has been an economic crisis," he said.
POTUS took no questions from the press corps, including a shouted question about the congressional deliberations over the Iran Nuke deal.
More and fuller quotes to follow.
