Subject: In-town pool #2 -- Oval spray with Nobel laureates
Pool was ushered into the Oval Office around 4:45 p.m. to see President Obama seated in a chair, with four of the Nobel laureates seated on the couches. Pool is endeavoring to get their names. The president took no questions, and spoke for about three minutes. As reported earlier, Bob Dylan was not among them.
The president said he's spent a lot of time "promoting science and trying to encourage young people" into the disciplines that have driven American innovation.
Referring to the laureates, he said, "They have done amazing work that for a lay person is sometimes hard to explain. But they are delving into the deepest aspects of matter, they are exploring our ability to manipulate molecules. We also have an economist who's helping to make sure our market system" operates fairly and efficiently.
"We are incredibly proud of them. It's just a reminder that one of the things that makes America unique is our ability to attract talent from all around the world to study at some of our greatest universities."
he said they are committed to "reasoned, fact-based" pursuits.
"Most importantly, the work that these gentlemen have done are going to inspire a whole new generation of scholars and scientists and researchers. .. I'm very, very proud of them."
As he concluded, he told the pool that "I'll see you guys at the Christmas party. All right? So, get ready."
