Subject: Pool report 6 - meet the neighbours

The pool entered a meeting room where POTUS was meeting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at around four local time.

Of note, Trudeau said that he looked forward to welcoming the president elect up to Canada 'soon after the inauguration' and had already extended an invitation.

President Obama spoke first.

He said it was a 'great pleasure' to talk to 'my good friend' and 'one of our closest allies in the world.'

POTUS said that teams from both countries are working on issues around advancing trade flows and border controls.

'We're going to try to get as much of that work completed' in his last two months in office, he said.

'There are few leaders around the world that combine vision and talent... like Justin does'

He said the bilateral relationship was one of constants.

Trudeau began in French by praising an extremely important relationship between Canada and the US.

'It's always a great pleasure to sit down with Barack' he said, turning to a couple of issues that need to be ironed out like soft wood lumber.

'Obviously I'm going to miss having Barack around' he said.

The pool left after about five minutes in the room.
