Prime minister Rajoy began by thanking POTUS for coming and expressed condolences for the shooting in Texas.
He spoke a little about Spain's improving economic situation. Turning to the political crisis in Spain he said that having a third election inside a year would be "a joke" that would be damaging for the economy.
He said they discussed Cuba and Colombia and described Obama as a "good friend of the Spanish people."
POTUS began by repeating some of the comments about the "tough situation we've had at home" he made earlier with the King.
"I was hoping for a longer stay, " he said.
He said he would definitely come back as an ex president, saying Spain's culture, food and climate was "hard to resist."
He joked that the first family loved it too.
"As your children get older they don't always want to spend time with you, but if you tell them 'we'll take you to Spain' then that's a good way to bribe them."
On policy he said "we meet here at a difficult and challenging time for Europe and the world."
He congratulated Rajoy on the progress made in righting the economy "it's been a difficult journey."
He spoke a little about Spain's role in countering ISIL and said " we are jointly concerned about the situation in Venezuela", speaking of the need to "stabilize the government and stabilize the economy."
