Subject: white house pool report 8 opening session
NATO Sec General Jens Stoltenberg opened the session. There were problems with the microphones so it was difficult to hear. The leaders sat around a large oval table. The leader of the newest member -Montenegro-- was seated next to president Obama.
The opening ceremonies opened with remarks from Stoltenberg:, Here are some quotes with help from Toluse Olorunnip of Bloomberg News
The NATO Alliance makes sure our people are safe and our valuees are secured"
We will take decisions in Warsaw that will affect us for years to come
/All leaders stood and military officials from each country walked in wearing military uniforms and bearing the various flags of their countries. A snare drum played.//
Stoltenberg: "our men and women in uniform serve around the world, on the ground from Afghanistan to Kosovo"
"You put your lives on the line so that all of us can live in peace and security"
"NATO is the greatest alliance in the world because of you"
//Moment of reflection for those who have been lost//
"We will strengthen our security and defense"
///President Duda makes remarks///
DUDA: "I'm proud of Warsaw, the city that celebrates the creativity and vitality of the polish people"
Since the end of the cold war we've come a long way in securing peace
That peace is being challenged by threats - migration and military conflicts, terrorism
"These challenges affect the citizens of every single member state"
"That is why the summit needs to bring stability... and security in times of threat"
The alliance must once again focus on collective security
NATO should maintain its open door policy, and I'm happy Montenegro in here
We want to solve problems through dialogue
"We remain ready to talk to anyone who shares this attitude"
Wished everyone a "fruitful summit"
