Subject: White House Travel Pool Report #2 Family photo

The president and the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries met for their group photo to kick off the summit in Riyadh. The GCC countries include Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain.

Obama entered the palace, passing a phalanx of Saudi soldiers holding gold swords and through a chandelier filled hallway.

Just before the photo Secretary of State John Kerry marched through the small holding area where the photo was set to take place. Then a few seconds later he reversed direction, suggesting that he had gotten a bit lost in the giant marble palace.

President Obama passed through the room about 10 minutes later to link up with the other GCC leaders.

The Arab leaders were dressed in  robes. Obama wore a gray suit and blue tie and posed next to King Salman, the Saudi monarch. There was some light chitchat that your pooler couldn't hear. Obama was smiling and laughing.

After the photos they repaired to a larger meeting room and gathered around a circular table. Obama chatted with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed of the UAE who sat on his right. King Salman sat on the president's left.

National Security Adviser Susan Rice, Defense Secretary  Ash Carter,  Secretary of State John Kerry and deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes filled the cheap seats behind the president.
