Subject: In-town pool report #1

No news from first spray. Trump did not take shouted questions on Flynn. A little more on that below.

Pool was ushered into the Roosevelt Room at 10:37 a.m. at the top of the parent-teacher conference listening session. President Trump entered the room at 10:50 a.m. with Vice President Pence. Sec. Betsy DeVos, Kellyanne Conway, Stephen Miller also present.

The president spoke for just under four minutes about education. He repeatedly praised DeVos, congratulating her on what he described as a "very tough trial, and a very unfair trial."

"We want every child to have an opportunity to climb the ladder of success," Trump said. "It all begins with education."

He decried "failing schools," particularly in the African American community. Trump said his administration wants "every child to have a choice about where they go to school."

Trump said he would have meetings next week with business leaders, but did not elaborate.

After his remarks, we had introductions from around the table.

Two questions shouted about Flynn: Did he feel Flynn had misled him, and did he have any comment on Flynn?  Trump did not answer either question. Pool was led out of the room at 10:58 a.m.

I'm requesting a participant list, and will send additional quotes from the event shortly.
