Subject: In town pool report #5 -- Trump on the debt ceiling
News on the debt ceiling.
During a meeting with cabinet officials, President Trump said he was open to eliminating the debt ceiling entirely.
Trump spoke in response to a shouted question.
"It could be discussed," Trump said. "There are a lot of good reasons to do that," he said.
Trump said there were a lot of things he could work on with Republican and Democratic leaders.
"The people of the U.S. want to see a coming together," he said.
Pool was ushered into the Cabinet Room at around 12:57.
Cabinet and White House officials were seated around a long table for a luncheon with the leader of Kuwait. Tillerson was to Trump's left. Pence was seated to Trump's right.
Trump initially spoke about Hurricane Irma and the visit of Kuwaiti Amir al-Jabar, who was seated across from Trump.
The debt ceiling comments came in response to shouted questions.
