In the shadow of the Capitol:
Law enforcement officers and their families somber and stoic in memory of fallen officers, bowing heads during invocation, which included a line about the "ultimate sacrifice." Officers in dress blues stood at attention as American flag at half-mast on Capitol building fluttered in wind. Sunlight glinted off of their badges and the brass buttons of their uniforms.

When he was introduced, POTUS received a standing ovation from the crowd. It appeared that VPOTUS was the first to stand on the dais and others followed suit. POTUS waved and pointed to the crowd in appreciation.

POTUS received another standing round of applause when he took the lectern to speak. Remarks lasted 25 minutes.

At one point during his speech, a man in the crowd shouted: "We love you, Donald!"

Cabinet and senior admin officials also on the dais: Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Some patches I saw in the crowd of law enforcement officers: Marion, Ohio; St. Charles Parish; Jefferson Parish; Border Patrol; Austin pipes and drums; Mason County; Enfield; Tasmania; Capitol Police (of course); little girl in front row wearing NYPD hat.

All remarks open press and carried live, but below are some notes if you need. I made audio, if anyone happens to need. Just ask.

Some VPOTUS remarks that stood out:
"Sacrifice and memory is what brings us to this place every year."
Administration working to "restore the respect and honor that is owed" to every officer.
POTUS supports law enforcement officers "without apology, and he always will."

Some POTUS remarks that stood out:
We're "blessed" with "so many incredible heroes"

Tells audience he wants them to remember and heed: "I will always support the incredible men and women of law enforcement ... as much as you have always supported me. And you did, big league."

"As the Bible tells us, there is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends."

Says officers are owed "the appreciation that they have earned 1,000 times over."

"We will keep America safe."

"You are the thin blue line between civilization and chaos."

Says so many police are "subject to unfair defamation and vilification, really, you see what's going on ... even worse, hostility and violence."

"The attacks on our police on a stain on ... very fabric of society"

Pledges to protect police and say, "Enough is enough."
