After a rousing rendition of the national anthem,

Dr. Ralph Reed introduced the president, saying "today marks his fifth appearance at this conference," adding that POTUS spoke here previously as a private citizen and as a presidential candidate.

"He set off a political earthquake and some are still feeling the tremors," Reed said, praising him for "boldly raising the plight of Christians" in his first trip abroad.

He also asked the crowd, wasn't it great to have a president land on foreign soil who didn't apologize for his country, to thunderous applause.

POTUS started speaking at 12:29pm

"Who would have known this was going to happen? But we had a feeling, didn't we?" he said to whoops and scattered applause from the crowd.

"I asked for your help and your prayers and wow, did you deliver," he said to the group of evangelical Christians. "You sent 22 million pieces of mail...and made 10 million phone calls."

"You didn't let me down and I will never let you down," he said to more applause. "We will always support our evangelical community."

"We're under siege. You understand that," he said.

A woman in the crowd said "that's right."

"I have one goal to fight for the American people, and to fight for America and America first," he said.

"We are going to battle for every American who has lost a job, every American of faith who has lost their rights and lost their freedom."

"The forgotten men and women will never ever be forgotten again."

"Remember when they said where did all these people come from, he asked. "And they are still trying to figure it out."

POTUS then recited Isiah Chapter 1, verse 17, flowing into the statement, "The entrenched interests and failed (unintelligible) in Washington will do everything in their power to try and stop us from this righteous cause, to try to stop all of you. They will lie, they will obstruct, they will spread their hatred and their prejudice, but we will not back down from doing what is right."

"We know the truth will prevail," he added.

"Nothing worth doing every came easy."

"We know how to fight better than anybody and we never give up. We are winners and we are going to fight."

More to come.

That's from my tape, but it's a noisy room so refer to the ultimate transcript for accuracy.
